Christmas Tree 2010

Designopolis, the first outdoors mall for furniture, is a strip located on the main highway, which makes it a landmark on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road. Shahira Fahmy, among other Egypt’s leading designers were invited to participate in designing Christmas tree installations for their first Christmas bazaar held on the 17th of December 2010. The outcome designed by Shahira was not your typical idea of a Christmas tree; the concept was to reflect the surrounding space that was mainly a construction work site, filled with initial Architectural Construction materials. Recycling the building materials to create the Christmas tree and have it blend within construction sites around Designopolis was a part of the concept. Thus materials used were basic construction and raw materials such as wood, ropes, and tie rods. The tie rods were painted in green to contrast the product and symbolize the Christmas tree.
