HK house

2010
Allegria, Sheikh Zayed, Egypt

HK house is a private residence located on a unique 6000 m2 plot in a suburban residential compound along Cairo-Alexandria desert road. The project is intended to be an iconic, sustainable, and LEED certified mansion. The plot is central on the edge of two perpendicular golf courses; the theme is fitting to this context including large lawn areas with lush slopes and leveling. The design was generated according to the unique location’s influences such as: accessibility, views, contours, long frontage and special plot proportions.

After reviewing these influences and determining their combined effect on the design, the program was developed into three dimensional spaces and arranged according to the proximity needs first and then manipulated to benefit maximum view, best solar and wind orientation, in addition to special attention towards integrating natural elements and landscape in different zones of the house accommodating private and public activities.

The program cubes are arranged to suit all design objectives and the lines are adjusted for optimum view, ventilation, and day light orientation. These two elements were combined and united with circulation elements and requirements. HK house is divided to two main interlocking volumes intersected by an extended line of water features.

The first volume includes all public areas such as the reception, the dining room, the living and the media room with a special regard to the living room’s privacy. The second volume is not limited to the master and secondary bedrooms but is extended to host the spa and lap pool on a mezzanine level to benefit best view of the golf course ahead.
