Working on the interior of a Nile cruise ship that will ultimately be a link between its guests and five thousand years of Egyptian history and heritage is a really exciting design experience. This is why the main concept in the renovation of Nile Adventurer was to give the boat a new spirit to reflect the contrast and duality between solid and liquid, man-made and natural, and between wild adventure and true comfort.
The design offers spaces in harmony with the surrounding environment. Local materials and color schemes are used; such as earth colors of the desert to the various shades of browns and terracotta; also a blue palette reflecting the Nile. The raw colors of metals and natural stone complement the mood. Materials vary from Egyptian marble and granite, to golden and red copper to the lightness of alabaster and even white linens.
We were inspired by the various layers of Egyptian heritage; from Pharaohs grandeur and moods, to Bedouin practicality, in addition to meticulous Arabic details. These cultural references and historical elements can be reinvented in familiar and contemporary spaces. Abstracted, simplified and used as a unique language for the boat; such motifs become patterns adding a subtle flavor to the whole experience.
The guest rooms have an outstanding dynamic view of the Nile, emphasizing the windows, and giving special attention to the curtains that range from blackouts to light lace-like patterns. New concepts were applied to the bathroom; integrating it with the room to compensate its small size. The choice of materials and color schemes are an extension to the public areas; using local warm colors to add coziness to the space.
